Our team brought this blank-slate, new-build home to life— adding personality and character to create a coastal modern home that now stands out from its neighbors on the block. See how we turned this house into a home with warmth, lots of light, custom carpentry, and coastal details— oh my!
Let’s start at the beginning, shall we? The entryway— the first impression a home makes. This is where our clients wanted to welcome friends, family and guests into their brand new home with a cool, modern, coastal vibe.
Instead of the traditional entryway console, we opted for a modern white pedestal table and full-length mirror with black accent pieces to greet visitors through the front door. Styled greenery helped soften the space, while this round pouf gave some added warm and natural texture to complete the setting.
The main floor living room was the main event for this project and where most of our design magic took place. This new-build home was a blank slate of white walls with simple windows and a fireplace when we began our work. To start, we added a feature wall surrounding the fireplace with beautiful natural stone and shiplap flanking each side. Custom built-in cabinetry painted a deep coastal shade of blue added a sophisticated pop of color, while providing functional storage that filled out the space. The power of custom carpentry made this new-build stand out with a fireplace mantel created just for this space.
We kept one section of built-ins closed with cabinet doors for more functional storage, with the opposite side kept open for styled shelving and room for a select few electronics or speakers. The open-shelf styling and accessories throughout the room created a warm, cozy, homey feel to contrast the cool, coastal modern aesthetic.
Window treatments, including a set of woven shades, added a natural warm feel to the white windows in the space. We love how the combination of curtains and shades instantly helps to soften up a room.
Our client had selected the room’s sofas and chairs in advance, so we brought in two black accent tables to finish out the space and give a bit more length to the sofas positioned on each side of the room. In the center of the seating area, we opted for two coffee tables arranged side by side, creating the effect of one larger coffee table that filled out the area perfectly.
Custom pillows added texture and additional layers of neutral colors, but with a touch of that coastal element. A neutral area rug helped frame the living room space, pull everything together, and provided added warmth and texture to the completed room.
We loved working our design magic on this blank-slate new-build and turning it into our client’s coastal modern dream home. Welcome home, Riddell family!
