5 Design Details That Elevate This Renovated Home

In this month’s edition of our Elevated Design Series, we are excited to feature Mindy Gayer Design Co.’s Rancho Santa Fe project.

We love how this beautiful home’s spaces combine striking Spanish architecture with both modern and traditional design elements. This reimagined house is now functional and elevated, making it the perfect transitional family home — both indoors and out.

Let’s take a closer look at the 5 design details that elevate this home—

  1. Accordion windows & kitchen skylight

Incorporating natural light into any space is so important, and these unique design options really fit the bill. We love these beautiful black-framed accordion windows above the kitchen sink that are unexpected yet fit the design style seamlessly. And the addition of a skylight above the kitchen island is *chef’s kiss* perfection! When there are not multiple windows to let light into a space, a skylight can be a wonderful option for any home renovation project to naturally brighten up a room.

2. Dark wood tones —indoors & outdoors

We are in love with the dark, warm and natural wood tones that were incorporated in this design throughout the entire home — both indoors and in the outdoor spaces. From the beams, ceilings, and cabinetry in the sitting room, to the outdoor living space — we love it all! This design choice really adds that traditional factor to the overall transitional style of the home, keeping it warm and inviting from room to room.

3. Double sinks in kitchen & bath spaces

A kitchen with not one but two sinks definitely speaks the luxury design language to us! We’re fans of this feature not only for its convenience, but it also contributes majorly to the high-end feel of this open and airy space. And let’s not forget to mention the super cute yet practical trough-utility style sink in the kids’ bathroom. Complete with two faucet fixtures, so no one has to wait in line before rushing out the door to school — we just love when form and function meet!

4. Quartzite kitchen countertops

Let’s take a moment for these quartzite kitchen countertops, shall we? These absolutely beautiful natural stone slabs are the perfect choice to blend both traditional and modern elements in the heart of this home. We applaud both the designer and her clients for embracing the high-contrast veining found in this natural quartzite stone. While it is a bolder selection, these countertops truly make the space and we are here for it!

5. Playful, patterned wallpaper

Last but certainly not the least spectacular element of this home is the playful, patterned wallpaper we see throughout almost every space. From the more elevated and subtle fern-pattern choice in the master bedroom, to the more illustrative and nostalgic prints in the kids’ bedrooms — we are loving it all, down to the laundry room’s squiggled walls. The options are nearly endless when it comes to decorating with wallpaper, and this home’s spaces are a beautiful example of expertly executing this design choice.

We could go on and on and on obsessing over this home’s sprawling spaces — the iron and wood open shelving, the statement lighting throughout, and there’s just so much more! Kudos to the talented design team on this fantastic family home.
