Custom carpentry is truly magical because it’s what makes a home stand out from every other one on the street. By definition, custom means unique. It is something built just for your space and just to your likings.
Here at Basil and Tate, custom carpentry is what our design dreams are made of, and we love working with clients who are willing to invest a bit more to love their space a whole lot more.

What makes custom built-ins custom?
For the most part, custom built-ins mean that a carpenter is building cabinetry and shelving on-site to get exact measurements. From the cabinet boxes, to cabinet doors, to the shelves - they make it all from scratch.
This allows for endless possibilities in types of wood, style of moldings, shapes of doors, and (my personal favorite) freedom of paint color! Most cabinetry lines carry a variety of paint colors to choose from, but it is limited. With custom cabinetry, the entire paint store can be your crayon box.
Why choose custom carpentry?
An experienced carpenter makes all the difference with these projects. They foresee areas that could be a bit tricky and plan for them before the project begins. And when a problem arises that they didn’t expect, they have ideas as to how to solve them.
A picture is worth a thousand words, and that is definitely the case with custom cabinetry. We love to find inspiration pictures to share with our carpenter, so that we are all on the same page. Our favorite carpenters are the ones who can take a picture and bring it to life!

Below are a few residential projects we have completed over the years featuring custom built-ins and custom carpentry work, that really helped transform these Denver area homes. Check out the before photos to see for yourself!
1. The wesorick Project
In the Wesorick Project, we updated their fireplace wall by replacing its rounded-corner niches (goodbye, early 2000s) with wood shelving to give it a more modern vibe.
2. The bachicha Project
And, speaking of getting rid of niches, we completely erased any signs of the one in our Bachicha Project living room. We built out the wall, added some shiplap, and then built open and closed storage to create a beautiful (and super functional) focal wall.
3. The Nyberg Project
This loft wall in our Nyberg Project was a blank slate, so we took the opportunity to use both paint and stain-grade wood to create a media wall that shows off beautiful accessories and hides the video games.
4. The Riddell Project
This fireplace wall in our Riddell Project is a perfect example of how custom carpentry instantly personalizes a home. This was a new build in a neighborhood that was all developed around the same time. That means your house will look just like your neighbor’s, until you are willing to add carpentry and custom touches to make it your own. This shiplap, stone, and custom cabinetry did just the trick — and put this new build in a class of its own!
As if it wasn’t clear enough... We. Love. Custom. Cabinetry. It’s that extra touch that ELEVATES a space and gives your home something that nobody else can head to the store and buy for themselves. Try it. You’ll love it. And better yet… let us design your space for you! If you think we could be a fit for your next project, please book a discovery call with us by clicking the button below.
