I love fancy hotels. So when we were planning my birthday trip this year, I was super excited to learn that one of Colorado’s three 5-star hotels was in Telluride. My life is nowhere near 5-star fancy, so when we travel we occasionally like to splurge and pretend that we are 5-star fancy people.
Many of the nice hotels we have stayed in over the years are amazing, but they don’t always speak to my design style. That doesn’t stop me from loving them though. The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs is a great example — super fancy, very traditional and elegant decor, flowers from floor to ceiling… but I love it.
I still appreciate the art and attention to detail that makes these hotels what they are —and, of course, the level of hospitality. BUT… when I do find a 5-star hotel with over-the-top hospitality AND decor that stops me in my tracks, I can’t help but dedicate an entire blog post to it. The Madeline Hotel in Telluride was all of that and more.
Read on to see why I fell in love with this hotel’s perfectly curated spaces, designed by Rose Ink Workshop.
I wasn’t familiar with Rose Ink Workshop — nor did I know that I had a serious design crush on their firm — until I walked into The Madeline.
The level of creativity in this hotel left me speechless. There wasn’t a single detail overlooked, and every detail had a unique, creative spin on it. Just look at the detail on that trim right below the wood beams in the photo above. Say what?!? The way they mixed modern lines while still maintaining the rustic vibes of a ski resort was perfection. And these handcrafted vases with oversized pinecones?! So cool!
The creativity continued as we ventured out of the main lobby and into the gathering room. Not only was there a double sided fireplace, so twice as many guests could gather around the flames, but they added some other fun spots to sit and sip. We didn’t even get a chance to hang out here, so I must go back and sit and enjoy every one of these gorgeous sitting areas.
Look closely at the dovetail detail on this millwork… wow. Just. Wow.
As for the rooms — they were beautiful as well, BUT I FORGOT TO TAKE PICS!! I have video, so head over to our TikTok feed and check out the King Guest Room tour.
The Madeline had adorable details around every corner. Maybe it is better that I didn’t get pics of everything. I feel like I’m spoiling it, but pictures never do interiors justice. This is one place you simply need to experience for yourself.
I do have one little story to tell because customer service makes ALL the difference, and that is yet another way The Madeline earns every one of their five stars. The gals at the front desk and the concierge were so friendly and so helpful— but they took it to a whole new level…
The day before we were leaving, I was looking around at their cute lil’ shop and thought it would be fun to get a candle to bring home to remind us of our time at The Madeline. I told the woman at the front desk that I was going to purchase one the next day before we left. That night after returning from dinner (and our bed was turned down… my fave!), there was a gift bag and card on our bed. Inside was a sweet birthday note and THE candle from the girls at the front desk! My jaw hit the ground. That is next level. 6 stars! 10 stars! Maybe they do that for everyone the night before they leave, but that would be quite the coincidence. I’m going to believe that it was an extra special touch from a hotel that holds the #1 spot in my book — The Madeline.
Until next time,
