Ho! Ho! Ho! Happiest holidays to you! I hope you are making time to enjoy the magic of the season. It is so easy to get caught up in the seemingly never ending to-do list this time of year. As I’ve shared with my newsletter readers, one of the best things I have done this year (which is very different from past years!) is to start holiday-ing EARLY! I’ve been a procrastinator my entire life, but I am s.l.o.w.l.y. learning the power of prioritizing, and that is a game-changer, my friend.
I was hesitant to start decorating the house before Thanksgiving, but I decided to embrace the excitement and go for it. #noregrets We did hold off on the tree until the day after Thanksgiving because that’s tradition… and I’m a sucker for traditions. So, we’ve just been enjoying the holidays a little longer than others, and I am more than okay with that.
One of the things that got me most excited about decorating this year was the thought of decorating our master bedroom. We remodeled our master bath this year and with that, ended up painting our bedroom and putting up new trim. It’s amazing what those two little things can do for a space. I was inspired to give our bedroom a long overdue mini facelift and it has been so nice to have a master bedroom that looks like one… it had been awhile!
I have a throw pillow addiction (who doesn’t?!) so once I decided what I was going to do there, the rest of the room fell into place. Here’s what I came up with:
Like I mentioned, I have a pillow addiction. I have been wanting some new holiday pillows for the sofa in our living room. I typically like to use pillow covers so that I don’t have so much to store the rest of the year, but HomeGoods and Target got the best of me. I love this mix of pillows, and they worked perfectly with the rest of my cozy Christmas decor.
We debated long and hard this year about switching to an artificial Christmas tree, but we couldn’t make ourselves do it. Maybe next year. This one smells amazing though and we were able to put on my favorite mix of lights - the small, traditional ones… and a few strands of patio lights! I started doing this last year, and I LOVE the mix of the two sizes. The tree looks so cute with only the large patio lights plugged in that I’m considering just doing those next year.
I’m a sucker for tablescapes. They aren’t really practical for our family, but that doesn’t keep me from creating them for the ‘gram. :) This year I kept it simple and a little bit modern. The inspiration came from the salad plates I found at Crate & Barrel. I’m always drawn to trees (of all shapes and sizes) for holiday decor, so I had a lot of fun creating this tree-themed table. (Watch my IG stories… or highlights… for my dirty lil’ secret about this tablescape!)
The last area I am featuring is our entryway. This dresser is the perfect size for creating seasonal vignettes. I used to be so good about keeping up with seasonal decor but my inner minimalist has been trying to cut back on the amount of stuff in our house. Christmas has always been the exception though. :)
So that’s the Newell Christmas Home Tour 2020… if that’s a thing. :) Having my house decked out for Christmas is when I love it the most, so I was happy to share when some IG friends asked me to be a part of their Holiday Home Tour. Please check out their IG feeds and stories to see their gorgeous homes dressed up for the holidays! So much creativity!
As much as I love all the pretty things this time of year, it’s the love and laughter of friends and family that I really want filling my home. I hope your holiday season is just that - a house filled with the PEOPLE you love the most! Merry Christmas!
