The Valgoi Project Reveal

Hello and Happy 2021! The holidays are over, my daughter’s weeklong birthday celebrations have wrapped up, and I just kicked (er… sent) my kiddos out the door to be in school again… HALLELUJAH! I am finally coming up for air, and it feels SO good to have the time to tackle the projects that have been on the back burner for almost two months - this reveal being one of them!

The Valgoi project started right as the world shut down for Covid, but we still managed to give their main floor a makeover. One of my favorite spots in their remodeled house is a space thats only true purpose before was to serve as a dance floor for the kids. As the kids got older (and the dance parties decreased… boo!) it felt more like wasted space with untapped potential. We decided to vault and shiplap the ceiling and breathe new life into the space by turning it into a breakfast nook… and I simply LOVE the way it turned out.

The rattan bench really helped to give the space some character. Not only were we able to mix up the seating, the bench became the perfect spot to soften up the space with pillows. They helped to add color and texture to an area that typically is full of hard lines. The other piece that made this nook pop is the light fixture. It is stunning! We opted for a larger one to make sure that it made a statement in the space, and that it did!

The dining room got a dramatic makeover as well. New paint helped to brighten the room, but the real game changer for this space became that focal wall! This variation of board and batten makes it the first thing you see when you enter that home - and it should be! It turned out beautiful! It provided the perfect backdrop for the sideboard and artwork and helps to visually fill the space of a large wall without feeling like we needed to fill it with ‘stuff.’

The combination of the wood table and the wishbone chairs gave the room a more collected feel, and the light fixture added a modern element that complimented the table and chairs without overpowering it. The woven seats add a natural element to the space that helped bring in the coastal vibe of the art.

The blue hues in both the dining room and the kitchen nook play off of each other and help to bring cohesiveness to their main floor. We were able to turn two spaces that were rarely used before into areas of their home that finally get to shine - and get the attention and use they deserve. The Valgoi family was absolutely amazing to work with - so patient and kind - and always sending me home with cookies. My kind of people!!
