This month’s reveal is proof that those architectural details I like to preach about (click here) can make ALLLLL the difference!
This living room started off as your average builder-grade living room in need of some character. New furniture makes a HUGE difference and paint can really make a statement as well. However, this space proved to be a little tricky because the layout of the house makes it hard to find a good starting/stopping point with paint. That means the scope of the project can spiral out of control pretty quickly when we have to start thinking about repainting the entire main floor - and deal with the domino effects of that. Instead, we decided to add board and batten to the room. This gave us a reason to paint that DID have a starting and stopping point. It also added the character the room was lacking and allowed us to brighten the space with lighter paint. The difference is amazing!
Once we nailed down the logistics of the walls, we started filling in the rest. One of my other favorite elements of the room is the curtains. Their color and texture contrast so well with the smooth, hard lines of the board and batten and soften up the entire space.
We found a sectional that fit perfectly and outfitted it with fun throw pillows that added a little personality to the room. Aren’t those little birds the cutest?! We played with a mix of patterns and textures and added some fun pillows to the beautiful wood framed chairs, too.
The rest was in the details - side tables with a mixture of wood tones and marble, a media stand and area rug in shades of blue, a statement light fixture, and simple accessories that feel both modern and cozy.
I am so grateful our client was on board with adding board and batten to this space. It certainly brought out this room’s full potential! And, lucky for us, it left the other rooms on their main floor feeling a little jealous, so we’re on to those next! This is the kind of domino effect we like. :)
