Warm Transitional Home Renovation | The Amos Project Pt. 1

Welcome to The Amos Project! This Denver area home renovation project located in the Back Country neighborhood of Lone Tree, Colorado features a remodeled kitchen, formal dining room, sitting room, and home office. Our team’s design includes custom carpentry, bespoke furnishings, metal accents, earthy textures, and modern lighting and art pieces that transformed our client’s home. The Amos Project showcases the design potential of Denver area homes, through the magic of custom carpentry, color palette choices, mixed materials, and the combination of traditional and modern accessorizing.

Take a tour of The Amos Project’s kitchen and dining room renovation with Basil & Tate Founder Jackie Newell.

Our clients had lived in their Denver area home for a few years, but it was becoming a bit dated and too rustic for their taste. They came to us thinking they wanted to lighten and brighten everything up! This home had a knotty pine trim, and we decided to keep its warm wood tones while lightening the spaces just a bit.

Rather than painting it all white, we decided instead to embrace the darker wood tones of the home as a warmer look comes back into style and makes spaces feel more inviting. We gave everything in this home a facelift — from entryway to kitchen and dining, sitting room to home office. Now our clients have a fresh feeling home that is lighter and brighter — yet still warm and calming — and definitely matches their style.

The Kitchen Remodel

In this space we did not entirely gut the kitchen, but we still wanted to modernize it. The former kitchen had really dark brown cabinets, but it also had beautiful countertops that we were able to keep. We were also able to keep the cabinetry itself and paint all of it to really bring some light back into the space. (That’s the power of selecting the right paint color!) Our design team contrasted that lighter feeling of the main cabinetry with a beautiful blue-green paint color for the kitchen island.

After painting, we brought in some really pretty brass accents throughout the kitchen with hardware choices. Our favorite metal accent piece are these stunning counter stools that feature brass buckles and leather straps on the back— an absolute show stopping furnishing piece. The detailing on these counter-height chairs are the first thing you see when you walk into the space.

A third key update in this kitchen renovation was the vent hood replacement. Instead of selecting a metal hood, we commissioned our carpenter to craft a more modern custom vent hood with wood tones to add a touch of warmth to this area of the kitchen. It really ties everything together, as this kitchen flows right into the dining room.

The Dining Room Refresh

This room had only a few changes, but the seemingly small shifts we made had major design impact. We were able to keep our client’s dining table and chairs, which they had more recently purchased and fit with the warmer transitional design aesthetic we were going for. The biggest change in the dining room were the addition of curtains. These added fantastic design drama and softened up the space, making it feel much more elevated and elegant.

The addition of a rug under the table and chairs helped center and ground the dining space, while creating another layer of cozy, soft texture. Last, but certainly not least, is this beautiful brass chandelier that plays off the warm tones and brings a modern touch that fits this design aesthetic. This dining room refresh is proof that selecting the right fabrics and lighting alone can really elevate any home’s gathering space.
