A couple weeks ago I shared with you the plans for the master bedroom over at the Nyberg Project. Purchases have been made and I’m pretty sure it’s like Christmas at their front door every day. So jealous! I can’t wait to get up there and see it all myself. Part of the reason I started this whole Basil + Tate gig is because I can’t do it all in my own house. This is even better though because I get darn near the same satisfaction decorating my clients’ homes as I do my own… or maybe even more because I get to spend their money instead of ours! Ha!

The Nyberg Project has been going strong for over a year now.  I’ve professed my love of this project many times before and that just continues to grow with each new project. To date, we have completed their living room, formal dining, kitchen, mudroom, entryway, grand staircase, and guest bedroom. We are currently in the process of accessorizing their guest bathroom and home office. I have SO many more pics I want to share, but I am waiting to reveal them until the rooms are painted. That… and the fact that I get so caught up in doing my thing when I’m over there that I usually forget about taking pics until I’m on my way home. Someday soon though!!  

 

As we work on the final accessories for the guest bathroom and office, we started our plans for the major elements of the master bedroom and bathroom.

In one of my previous posts about adding transitional style to any room, one of the five main elements I addressed was texture.  Texture is essential to adding visual interest to a room of any style - not just transitional.  It can be achieved by varying textures of fabrics on throw pillows, curtains, rugs, blankets, etc.  What I didn’t mention was adding texture to your walls!  Think outside the box - this isn’t simply the texture already on your drywall - it’s adding architectural details to your wall.  This can be done in so many ways.  Shiplap and board and batten are crazy popular right now - but you’ll also find brick and other natural stone, wood beams, stucco, tile from floor to ceiling… just to name a few.

I need to play catch-up on a couple projects that I completed over the last couple months, so first up is this beautiful powder room. This project was extra special from the beginning because I designed it for my favorite yoga instructor in the history of EVER. Due to this season of my life, I’ve had to move my practice home so I haven’t been able to see much of her, but that made collaborating on this project with her an extra big treat. It was so fun to connect outside the walls of the studio and get the chance to know each other better. She is such an incredible person with so much depth and thoughtfulness, and I wanted her space to reflect that. She had just moved into her new home and the powder room was at the top of her list of rooms that needed some love. You may agree… :)

Welcome to Basil + Tate’s first ever blog post! I’m so excited to have a space to share this new adventure with you. Transitioning from the world of education to the world of interior design and entrepreneurship has been quite the trip so far.
